Rebecca Movie Review
The main character (Lily James) is a friend of the abusive actress Miss Van Hopper (Ann Dowd) who travels to Monte Carlo. They meet Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a rich man living in the city. The poor orphan falls in love with a young girl and they get married. He is survived by his first wife, Rebecca, who died in a boat accident. They returned to their large mansion, Manderley, with a large staff led by the firm Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas).
Interestingly, the main character remains anonymous. I have never read Daphne du Maurier's novel. I always thought his novels were love novels. It probably meant that the book was written from the perspective of the first person, and reading took the place of a young assistant. It’s a great way to get female students to emulate a hero and go on their journey. I wonder if the movie should definitely try to do something experimenting using a first-person perspective. He needs something. All in all, it is a good old school story. There are some attempts at gothic horror. The film looks good. Players are alive. In the end, there is nothing better or newer than to punch you in the face. This is good.
