Break Movie Review
A low-profile British film about a poor child from a poor father whose dying father made a final effort to get out of prison to get his son a chance at a Snooker tournament in Hong Kong that would change his life. This kid is a temporary criminal, spending his life on drugs and petty crime hanging out with his friends ... but surprisingly he showed Snooker's gift.
I wish they could show more about the Snooker game and explain the rules a bit, but I think they see that the purpose of the internet.
The characters were fit and well-executed, but there were a lot of weird ideas ... like taking out a girl and a bad guy.
I would probably give this movie a pass ... although I have no other snooker movie to recommend ... there are a few pool movies The Hustler (Paul Newman), Stickmen (New Zealand), The Color of Money (Paul Newman).
However, this is a Dutch actor, Rutger Hauer's last film ... so if you would like to see him and do not want to watch Bladerunner, Ladyhawke or The Heineken Kidnapping again this is your film. ... And to the fans of Anne Rice: You really would have made a better vampire than the actor who got the role.
