Lupin III The First Movie Review
Although Lupine III starred in a large number of series and movies, this series I only know about its two productions driven by the auteur, the entertaining Hayao Miyazaki movie, Castle of Cagliostro, and the ingenious anime series by Sayo Yamamoto, The Called Woman About Fujiko Mine.
So this was the first Lupine III film I could see without a leading star. and I think it’s probably close to what fans usually expect from the series. Which, if any, is a reason not to look at any of this.
Not that bad. A simple-hearted comedy-adventure with thieves and ancient mysteries and Nazis and big weapons and the like, and that’s all beauty. The animation is well done, everything goes very fast.
But its derivative, the characters are little scrutinized, the humor is soft, and everything is completely forgotten.
The director, Takashi Yamazaki, is not bad; I saw a film he did a few years ago called, The Returner and it was a fun little picture of B. But he is not Miyazaki and he has no interest he can contribute to the structure of the basic series.
I probably won’t look at another Lupine III product unless you have a really good offspring. I wouldn't bother with this one.
