The Colony Movie Review
The earth is moist, covered with endless fog, almost no color and everything is miserable and rotten.
I got tired of going through the first 30 minutes and then spending the next fifteen years clicking on the 'Jump Ahead 10 Seconds' button looking for important scenes to see if things have gotten sour and bleak, and got the idea of a thesis of the story. .
I can report that the sets became very interesting, (big rotten ships from years past forming an oppressive society), and there is something growing in the story, involving fascist leadership and poor waifs, etc. However, even though I have the power to "Jump Forward", I have found that I do not care enough to see how the tragic story happened.
Maybe I’m wrong, my mind is re-connected to the fast-paced high-speed film feed and peppy news lines. Maybe your thing is slow and sad and humid. If so, this film is for you.
About thesis ...
The film offers a glimpse of the world from the perspective of a climate change alarm. -It's hard to take if you know something about how C02 works in plant health; (you don't get endless mud flats and lots of water), but who cares about science or facts? -Not writers, apparently imagining an advanced environment producing people who can move our species to distant astronomical systems as they are clearly unable to engineer a seafront that does not resemble the ancient Apollo craft and does not sink quickly under the sea where it touches and kills its inhabitants. Even in the 1960's we knew how to make reliable space ships.
Tides offer many sad 'feelings' that do not matter to you. Otherwise, production and acting prices were above average and the film made good use of a limited budget.
6/10 because reliable art has entered this product.
