The Superdeep Movie Review
When I read the captions of this 2020 film titled "Superdeep" (aka "Kolskaya sverhglubokaya"), I must admit that I was immediately intrigued, as the film sounds fun. So since I had the opportunity to sit down and watch "Superdeep" here in 2021, I did just that.
I must say that "Superdeep" is a film that will find some appeal to fans of John Carpenter's "The Thing", as there are some interesting similarities between the two movies.
However, "Superdeep" is not at all like "The Thing" in terms of durability or amount of entertainment. Now, don’t get me wrong here, because “Superdeep” is a visual film, but writer and director Arseny Syuhin did not have the same ability as John Carpenter to make this an equally entertaining and disturbing film.
What lacked "Superdeep" was that sense of isolation, despair and fear of the cosmic "Thing" that he had, and it was shown on screen. Sure, I was able to stay in the whole film, but I was happy enough. However, "Superdeep" is not a movie that authorizes second views, as it has no content in its story line for more than one view.
The acting of the film was great, and it was fun to sit down and watch a movie like this without having a normal face on the screen.
Something that caught the movie was that it was a regular, direct and predictable film. Writer and director Arseny Syuhin did not just throw the audience curveballs in the way, which was very disappointing.
"Superdeep" wins points for its special effect and visual effects. The design of the creatures was fascinating, and the scenes in which people finally gave themselves up to the characters were amazing. Those scenes themselves make it great to sit down and watch "Superdeep".
In the end, when "Superdeep" was a hit, it wasn't the most memorable or terrifying sci-fi experience. It was a shame, though, because there really was a lot of unspoken force here in the film.
My rating for the 2020 film "Superdeep" reaches five out of ten stars.
