The God Committee Review
As "The God Committee" (2021 release; 98 min.) Opens, we see a young man riding a bicycle find his car hit and run. Then we go to "November 6, 2014, New York City", where we get to know Dr. Boxer, a renowned cardiologist, and Drs. Taylor, her boyfriend and a cardiologist at the same hospital. Drs. Taylor was recently called to the heart committee, which decides which patients receive a heart transplant. Then we went on "The Last 7 Years, Dec. 20", as Drs. Boxer makes a presentation to investors about organ transplants ... At this point we are less than 15 minutes away. In a movie, but telling you more about the plot can ruin your sense of humor, you have to see for yourself how it plays out.
A few comments: this is the second feature length from producer-writer-director Austin Stark ("Runner"). Here you look at the drama played in hospitals across the country, namely how the organs were distributed (to whom and in sequence) to those in need of implants. Let’s say there are a lot of ethical considerations that make it easy to write in a medical game like this. Sometimes, the movie is interesting but often the movie is not even, and the text is not strong enough. The saving grace comes through two leading players, namely Kelsey Grammer (like Dr. Boxer <and producer), and Julia Stiles (like Dr. Taylor; it is arguable that she is currently 40 years old). There are some good metal points, courtesy of Newton Brothers (who also won Stark's previous film "The Runner").
"God's Committee" was a film in 2019 and was supposed to be the Prime Minister at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival, but a small thing called COVID-19 had different views. The film was last screened at the latest 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and was screened at selected US theaters this weekend. The Sunday show where I saw this in my local theater here in Cincinnati was so crowded: 10 people really, and we tend to be more inclined to adults (not that there is anything wrong with that). If you are interested in medical drama, or you are a fan of Kelsey Grammer or Julia Stiles, I would suggest you check it out, either in the theater, in VOD, or finally on DVD / Blu-ray. , and then reach your conclusion.
