 Wife of a Spy Review

This is a very powerful little film. A cat-and-mouse war (WWII) drama with good reason and as seen in the view of the loving (and pampered) wife of a prince torn between his conscience and loyalty to his country that causes him to leave especially the cocoon. presence. Unfortunately, things do not seem to be going well at work. The director (and the script given to the three writers) is seen throwing things about (like genres, sub-episodes, and motives for characters) to see what might work (usually a sign of having more writers!). The result is a loose film and wandering around until the audience is left with little left behind, and, eventually, they may lose interest. Actors bring in unequal games. Actress Yû Aoi (who plays the title wife of the title) seems to be a part, but it seems difficult to play the role. Uneven and rotating script may be part of the problem. The film is too long and the ending (when it finally appears) is slowed down a bit especially as the script appears repeatedly creating some surprise (or at least worth waiting for) an end that will never be seen. . Shower. Scenes lighting is far from ideal. The interior is usually illuminated to the point where the characters are invisible. Outer night scenes are also plagued by this trend. Cutting on the production corner is not possible. The outer sets are dense and appear to be very small. A lot is heard on camera, but it has never been seen as traffic jams, trains, cargo ships, and explosions. The same text prop appears to be reused. Music is probably not about a closed-loop closed wound. Subtitles are close enough and some closing credits are translated. Not particularly recommended. Viewed at JICC Virtual Winter Film Fest.
