Free Guy Review
When I saw the trailer for this film, I was a little 50/50 about watching it, but I'm glad I took it and saw it on the big screen, directed by Shawn Levy (Cheaper by the Dozen, Night at the Museum, Night Night). Basically, Free City is an open world video game created by Soonami Games.
In this game, Guy (Ryan Reynolds), an actor (NPC), works in a bank and spends time with his best friend Buddy (Get Out's Lil Rel Howery), unaware that his world is a video game. The game, dubbed Life Itself, was developed by Walter "Keys" McKey (Joe Keery) and Millie Rusk (Jodie Comer), but its code was stolen and developed into a free City by Soonami's main developer Antwan (Taika Waititi). Keys has got a job at Soonami, while Millie spends time in Free City as her avatar Molotov Girl to get proof of her code with the Keys and prove they are the rightful owners. In the play, Guy meets Molotov Girl, singing Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" song, a song that he says his dream girl will love and is starting to deviate from his plans. One day, Guy takes sunglasses from a player who is trying to rob his bank, where he sees Free City at a player show. Guy talks to Millie, initially assuming he is a player called "Blue Shirt Guy", not NPC. Tell her to reach more than a hundred levels before you talk to her again. Rather than stepping into the usual harmful practices, Guy chooses to be a good young man, completing a trip to Free City by stopping crime. You get a global feeling as the players watch the continuation of the "Blue Shirt Guy". Millie and Guy reunite when she enters Stash, another player's well-protected area within the game with proof of her source code. Guy helps Millie escape from Stash, and Millie realizes that Guy is sympathetic and believes he can help her find her real code in the game world. Keys and Millie realize that Guy's self-esteem came from an artificial intelligence code that contained Millie's personal preferences that Keys incorporated into Life Itself, which led Guy to develop a romantic interest in Millie. Millie tells Guy the truth that she is part of a video game, Guy is upset and breaks up with their relationship, because he can't live a life that isn't real. However, after talking to Buddy about the situation, he is reminded of some real and meaningful moments. Guy gets full sympathy and returns to Millie, who agrees to help before Free City is removed from Soonami's servers to open another route, Free City 2, in two days. Guy also broke into Stash with Buddy's help, but its owner Revenjamin Buttons (Channing Tatum), actually a clever young man Keith (Matty Cardarople), sees Guy as a "Blue Shirt Guy", and offers testimony with joy. Guy's continued fame threatens the launch of Free City 2, and Antwan orders Keys and his new teammate Mouser (Utkarsh Ambudkar) to restart the game, but Keys refuses and is fired, and Antwan restarts himself. Restart means that Millie finds Guy without any memories of her feeling. But remembering Keys' advice that Guy will need a reminder, he kisses her. Guy's feelings are restored, and he remembers the Island area, a part of Life Itself that will not be protected from pending data deletion and is the only proof of Millie and Keys' original code. Guy and Millie beg the other NPCs in the game to go beyond their plans and join them. Antwan tries to remove Guy and Molotov Girl from the game, but the Keys interrupt to protect them and direct them to the Island. Antwan then sent Dude, a large and unfinished copy of Guy developed by Free City 2, to the game. They fight each other, but Guy gains a upper hand, and he is able to make friends with his enemy. Antwan takes the final step in destroying the game servers with an ax, but Guy arrives in Island on time, an event seen by gamers around the world. Millie forces Antwan to return the Free City code and intellectual property (IP) to her and Keys. Without the support of Millie and Keys' code, Free City 2 sales are down, and Antwan is embroiled in a series of media feuds, which led to him leaving Soonami. Keys, Mouser, and Millie started a new company with code earned to release Free Life, bringing Guy, Buddy, Dude, and other NPCs to Free City. Free Life is a success, and Millie realizes that the Keys created Guy as a representation of what she loves about him, which includes enjoying Mariah Carey's song, and hugging and kissing. Starring Aaron W. Reed as Dude, Britne Oldford as Barista, Camille Kostek as Bombshell, Mark Lainer as Hostage, Mike Devine as Officer Johnny, Vernon Scott as Bank Manager, and with Chris Evans' cameo, and Hugh Jackman's vocals as a Masked Alley, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Bank Robber # 2, Tina Fey as Vacuuming Mom, and John Krasinski as Silhouetted Gamer. Reynolds plays a style character that everyone really likes, Comer puts on an American and his own British style is equally popular, the metropolitan area is actually a cross between Grand Theft Auto and Second Life, the story celebrates and mocks the culture of the geeks and the physical world. games, there is an amazing sequence of amazing fighting and chase, special effects are good, and there are some great funny jokes, a funny and funny joke of science fiction. Very good!
