Full disclosure: I don’t really watch many movies and I know Nick Thomas for the representation work we’ve done. I actually watched Amazon Queen only because I liked Nick and wanted to know (1) how good he would be, (2) why he was nominated for the awards, and (3) why there was a sudden influx of 1 star reviews.
The film took a while to continue and, frankly, the beginning was funny. I stuck to it, though (unlike most 1 star reviewers) because I know Nick and paid $ 5 to rent it. About 1/3 of the previous method, I think "meh. I'll watch but not write a review."
That plan started to change almost in the middle, and the thing really got better. Good enough that, for the last third time, I was able to forget that I was watching Nick and his friends and really focused on the movie.
I have ADHD as they all come out and the plot caught my attention, though mostly after the first third and especially in the last half. The location was amazing and there were cool camera angles.
My rating is 7 out of 10 because the first third will have to be 2, actually get any place and structure. The second part of the film gets its full half of my 10 stars.
