On a boat bound for Rio de Janeiro, a passenger named Whitney points to Ship Trap Island, a place that sailors fear and avoid. He and his friend Rainsford are great hunters on a voyage hunting in the Amazon River basin. As the boat sailed in the dark, the two men argued over whether the victim was really scared. Rainsford, though not as skeptical as Whitney, believes the world contains only hunters and victims. Seeing the workers ’discomfort, Whitney wants to cross the mysterious island very quickly. He thinks that sailors can feel the danger and that evil can easily get in the way of light and sound.
Whitney then decided to dedicate the night, but Rainsford prefers to smoke his pipe on the back porch for a while. Suddenly he heard a gunshot three times in the distance and headed for the barracks to investigate. Raising himself on the railway line for a better view, Rainsford drops his pipe, loses his balance while trying to hold it, and accidentally falls into the water. The cry for help goes unanswered and the boat disappears at night.
The story follows a New York City hunter who fell off a boat and swam to an abandoned Caribbean island where he was being hunted by a Russian official.
