From the author-director of Search comes another well-designed, fast-paced & exciting atmospheric mystery-thriller that uses elements of its kind to bring coolness. Slowing down increases the tension and becomes more suspicious as the plot progresses but the story also loses its strength in the final act and fails to isolate itself from the crowd.
Collaboratively written and directed by Aneesh Chaganty, where his first feature of the film amazed us with its origins, uncertainty and endless storytelling, this first-class effort was interrupted by our familiarity with the setting. However, there are a few intriguing and exciting scenarios kept here and the plot catches the viewers a lot of the time. However, the payoff is not worth it enough.
It does not take long for the master plan to emerge. It actually does very quickly when extra time should have been devoted to making the mother and daughter reunion feel real and realistic before sowing the seeds of doubt and suspicion in our main character. The role model is amazing for both Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen, because the former is believed to be a crazy mother while the latter gives all the features of her character's body precisely to steal the game.
All in all, Run is a well-crafted example of its kind that can keep us investing in the outcome despite the predictable story line but unfortunately fails to stick to the last times in order to have a fulfilled note. The conclusion is still valid, either in the form of a formula & standard. Useless compared to the previous Chaganty feature, the Run is still far from a disaster and a small adjustment of expectations should provide a satisfying experience for many, if not all.
