Saltwater: The Battle for Ramree Island Movie Review
When I came across this 2021 film "Saltwater: The Battle for Ramree Island" by author and director Steve Lawson, I must admit that the fact that the cover had a large crocodile and said "based on real events" made me want to watch it.
But then I had that grunting voice in the back of my head telling me that this was going to be another aspect of the evil creature. But still, I chose to sit down and watch it.
And as it turned out, then "Saltwater: The Battle for Ramree Island" was a bad aspect of the creature. In fact, it is not a movie I would recommend that you spend your time, money or effort on.
The film took place in 1945 when we followed a small British team trying to get to a Japanese placement on a certain island. But they have to cross a swamp quickly to reach their goal. But the swamp is home to vicious crocodiles.
Now, it has to be said that the film did not really have all that action with the crocodiles in it. It was just the audience following the English soldiers as they constantly argued or blamed each other for the difficulties they were facing. So it was a boring drama rather than an action film.
And even if this movie is actually based on real events, I do not know, and I do not really care after seeing the film. But if British troops were to lead a Japanese army into a crocodile-infested swamp it would be a wise way to think outside the box.
Acting in a movie was not something I could write about at home. I’m sure the actors did their best, but they probably didn’t have anything solid or significant they could work with in terms of text, story, dialogue or interesting actors.
"Saltwater: The Battle for Ramree Island" gets two out of ten stars for me.
