Soul Movie Review
My summary is NOT because the word "Soul" is dirty or inappropriate for children. Instead, I say this because it is clearly sold to young people and, in particular, adults. Common good sidekicks and children's stuff are not present in this CGI film and the jazz effect may also be unpopular with younger audience members.
The story is about the present life, our purpose and our passions .... not the kind of things children care for and, in that sense, the same can be said of other adults.
Joe is a frustrated middle school band teacher because his real ambition is to become a jazz band. And, as soon as his big break comes, he ends up dead! All of this happens in the first 10 minutes or so ... and the rest is an indescribable journey between life and death to investigate these important questions. I can try to explain all of this, but it is difficult to explain and you need to see for yourself.
The CGI of the film is complete. Not all cutesy-cutesy like most CGI films and not at all scary as a few (such as "Mars Needs Moms"). It is also interesting to see the modern urban look in the picture. My only complaint, and a small one, is that I think the last part could be a little strengthened. But on the other hand, a kind film ... very different from other Pixar products.
