The Unhealer Movie Review
Directed by author, producer, and filmmaker Martin Guigui (Under the Darkness), The Unhealer has strong actors with Natasha Henstridge (Species) and Lance Henriksen (Near Dark) as the most famous actors.
Kelly Mason (Elijah Nelson) is a young man with an eating disorder called pica that causes him to eat paper, Styrofoam, and anything else he can eat. Medical science cannot help her, her classmates are abusing her, and her single mother (Henstridge) has no idea where to turn.
Enter Pflueger (Henriksen), a former artist and artist who has gone from polluting the tombs of the Native Americans to the artifacts, became Pastor Pflueger after an explosion that empowered him to heal others. Despite the plea of Native American elder Red Elk to restore his ability, Pflueger says he will live forever and use his gift of healing to gain material wealth.
Bernice hires Pflueger to cure Kelly, but the laying on of hands causes the man to die of a heart attack. Now, his gift has been passed on to the boy. Any abuse inflicted on him would only injure his victims. So think about it — if you have been bullied for years, what can you do?
Oh yes - and when Kelly eats anything worn by someone, everything she feels, and the person wearing it feels it. Indeed, this leads to a wet dream during the school day, which adds to the late 90s / early 2000s directly from the film's video sensation - I mean, it has the song Stabbing Westward over the credits - and that's a good thing.
As Kelly becomes more confident and eventually defeats Dominique, the woman of his dreams, he begins to realize that this power is a curse and will seek more violence than the damage he has done to his bullies.
This has been developed as a trilogy, which makes sense, as there is a decent story that sounds like it could continue from here. There was a strange moment when Kelly used a drill on her knees to inflict damage on a footballer who shocked me with both humor and movement. Well done.
