Zack Snyder’s Justice League Movie Review
There was a time when I was going to a movie, watching a movie like Superman II or Raiders of the Lost Ark. I thought I really liked that movie, which I could have done for an additional 30 minutes, what a ride.
As I grow older. Now if you are facing 3 hours in length, The Avengers: Endgame. All I can think of is that no one will think in my bladder.
There are countless examples of 2-hour long movies today where I think the director can easily cut in 30 minutes.
This brings me to Zack Snyder's Justice League. Every 4 hours.
I planned to watch this for a few days and to my surprise I did it all in one day.
Although the Justice League (2017) has acquired Zack Snyder as director. The film was heavily shot by Joss Whedon who gave the final cut in 2 hours. Snyder has not even seen a movie.
Fans' pressure was relieved by Zack Snyder's cut. It looks like everything Snyder captured is in it, some with better special effects and Snyder even took new photos.
This is a very consistent version. I remembered how fast some of the scenes were in the Justice League and the music that accompanied Danny Elfman.
Whedon's rewriting and re-shooting actually created a dual-minded monster competing. It then needed to be more organized for a shorter working time.
Snyder was allowed to give up his cut room to breathe. The main beneficiaries are The Flash and Cyborg who have a lot of backstory and are better used here.
Former Cyborg star Ray Fisher was highly critical of how part of his character was relegated to the Justice League and to his dislike of the spirit created by Wedon.
Steppenwolf also gets better at this movie with advanced CGI. In the Justice League I thought he was just a CGI giant.
There are still some downsides. In the first scene of the abduction with Wonder Woman. He may undress as we see him move a lot. Instead Wonder Woman allows him to reload his gun, all so he can blow him up next to the building. How many people have been injured by falling debris?
When Flash works close to light speed. Cyborg just stands there doing nothing, not even looking back to see if Steppenwolf exists. In fact there are too many stops in several action scenes where the mother box is the most important thing to protect.
Superman is still dangerous in both versions. Reduced role of Iron Man to return from the dead.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best version of the Justice League. However the real challenge would have been Snyder had delivered the film in 90 minutes.
