Death of a Girlfriend Review
In the mystery of the murder of Yam Laranas, Diego Loyzaga plays the stars as one of three suspects who narrate conflicting ideas of a brutal crime after the discovery of a woman (AJ Raval) killed in the heart of the jungle. As the investigation takes a sharp turn, the assassin reveals his true identity.
I used to be a follower of Laranas after seeing some of his works like 'Sigaw' (2004), his American remake 'The Echo' (2008) direct, 'The Road' (2011). But lately, his past works have been very disappointing, starting with the mystery of the mixed ownership 'Abomination' (2015), the unscrupulous ghost ship 'Aurora' (2018) and the very boring 'Nightshift' (2020). Now, Laranas returns with the mystery of murder, that is, honesty, no longer a mystery because of the evil twists and turns of God.
Now, I honestly don’t care about coño conversations that sound compelling and weird for the most part. And I don’t care about the rare sex scenes, which although they feature enough nudity, aren’t as completely satisfying as they weren’t shot in any artistic way. But what I care about is the dramatic twist of the film.
Let me tell you a story: we have a girl who was raped, murdered, and left for dead in the bush. We have three suspects: a boyfriend (Loyzaga), a forest guard (Arnold Reyes), and a farmer (Raul Morita). If you watch enough crime movies and documentaries, you can already guess who the killer is among these people with their twist of the 90's. What also spoils the film is a series of very long revelations about the church that we obviously already noticed less than an hour ago we entered a film with all those obvious red flags. C'mon, 2021. Do you think the audience is so stupid that they do not even guess who killed him?
In addition to this, performance is also incompatible. Although Diego Loyzaga manages to portray his character well and Arnold Reyes excels at his amazing opportunity, AJ Raval appears to be playing a classy game at school full of a funny tone ("No!") That makes him sound like he is. reading idiot board or teleprompter. At least the film looks good, and it has some really good music from Laranas co-star Oscar Fogelstrom who adds an amazing feel to it.
With a truly subtle twist that makes this mysterious film sound like decades ago, 'Death of a Girl' is another disappointing thing from Yam Laranas.
