 Cry Macho Review

Clint Easwood is an old man, whose career as a rodeo rider had long since disappeared with a broken back, and his wife and child died in a car crash for decades. One day, Dwight Yoakum appears and reveals that Eastwood owes him. He wants Eastwood to move to Mexico City, where his 13-year-old son lives with his ex-wife. Bring the boy to the border, and they will call him equal. After going back and forth, Eastwood did. He finds that the situation is not as Yoakum points out, but it is close enough. He tells the boy, Eduardo Minett to come north, and they embark on a challenging road trip, followed by the ex-wife's gang, returning to the US border, accompanied by Minett's army.

The problems with this movie are huge, and it comes down to two salaries. Clint Eastwood can't move with any sense of power. He is in his 90's, and he walks as if he were going to fall and break into a million pieces. As for Minett, he brings all the lines in English as if he were translating them diligently. That is probably not a bad decision for how a real person can speak, but for a leading role in what is a bad street film, it is very fast.

Even with those two major mistakes, I had a wonderful time. The delivery of the Eastwood line is simple and very good, the story makes a good impression, emotionally and in character development, and Ben Davis' shooting in the high country of New Mexico as a base, is pretty good.

Considering Eastwood's amazing ten-year director, including his last five all good, it would have been nice to stretch the ropes. However, the flaws, and especially Minett's wrong choices - or perhaps it was the order of correction - make this one only look good.
