 Cinderella Review

Greetings again in the dark. With the passage of time, the author's director Kay Cannon (PITCH PERFECT's three-movie screen producer) has transformed an old story and Cinderella story into an agenda movie, albeit adorned with new and exciting versions of popular songs. The earliest versions of folklore go back to the year 2000, when a widely accepted version of the myth was written by 17th-century French author Charles Perrault, who also wrote "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Beauty of Sleep". Since then, there have been dozens of songs from around the world in various forms: literature, stage, music theater, TV, and animated and live action film. To my knowledge, this is the first step for women.

When we open with the people in town who sing Janet Jackson's song "Rhythm Nation", we are introduced to Ella (pop singer Camila Cabello in her first film), who lives in the basement of her mother's house (Idina Menzel). Yes, Ella has two step sisters, though not a single one of them. In fact, Anastasia (Maddie Baillio) seems unattractive, while Drizella (Charlotte Spencer) is sometimes, very funny (in Leslie Mann's way). Even stepmother has good times and respect for Ella.

The only friends of Ella's three mice also live in the basement. This is where he sharpens his talent as a costume designer and dreams of owning his own business ("how hard can it be?"). For her, seeing fashion design is not just her way of getting out of the underworld, but more important, her way of being independent. She does not need a man or anyone else, and she is skilled at daily verification. His is a small 'dream' and a goal, despite the challenges of his status.

Yes this is still the story of Cinderella, and Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Robert, a stalwart young man with no motivation to be king and fulfill the great desire of his father, King Rowan (Pierce Brosnan). On the other hand, Robert's sister, Princess Gwen (Tallulah Greive) are both driven and full of ideas for ways to improve the empire. Her father easily chases her away from important issues (men’s things), while Queen Beatrice (Minnie Driver) initially tries to keep the peace in the family. Knowing that this is music, and seeing Pierce Brosnan's name in the credits, may create a vicious memory of those who met his singing in MAMMA MIA! (2008). Despite her mockery of her singing, many of her songs speak in tongues.

Bringing momentum to the story at a time when it is most needed is Billy Porter as Ella's Fabulous Godmother, known for Fab G. Porter's costume and the brilliance of everything is a wonderful thing to look at, and, nevertheless, very beautiful. and artist. And yes, the three mice turned out to be coaches played by James Corden, James Acaster, and Romesh Ranganathan. They offer relief from humor, but probably not in the way they or the filmmaker have hoped. Surprisingly, the design of the set and the design of the costume are strenuous - both different being Porter and the ball.

In addition to the opening song "Rhythm Nation", you will hear the Salt-N-Pepa version of "What a Man", as well as some familiar tunes. Music and the change in Ella's style of current affairs, as the girls' power theme emphasizes that there is no need for a man ... not even a Prince. The distortion of the Cinderella myth varies from previous versions, most notably Kenneth Branagh's 2015 film with Lily James and Cate Blanchett, the 1997 film with Whitney Houston as the Mythical God, and of course, Walt Disney's classic animated 1950. Ms. Cannon's translation is still a love story; it is to love a person for himself and his work, rather than to love another person. The myth of the times.

At selected theaters and on Amazon Prime from September 3, 2021.
