Once Upon a Main Street Review
This was a very respectable Christmas movie. Two people competing in one place ended up decorating the big street shops to make a "Battle of the Main Street" Christmas contest with a neighboring town. Forced to work together, the quarrel between the two of them eventually turned to romance. The movie slowly draws slapstick jokes with several irregularities between the two tracks (e.g., the best falls into the snow at the beginning of the film). I laughed a little, sometimes. The first part of the film is based on the ongoing feud and conflict between the two main characters, Amelia (played by Vanessa Lachey) and Vic (played by Ryan McPartlin). The conversation here was very positive. I was not offended by it as some of the reviewers are here. At the time, it was not as funny as the writers would have liked, I suspect. There are heartfelt messages in the film as well (e.g., it is not too late to fix with loved ones, especially during the holidays). There are entertaining (and sometimes, humorous) characters in the film, and they focus on the controversy. The overall imitation was good. Both Lachey and McPartlin (also known as Captain Awesome, of 'Chuck' fans who read this) played well. The chemistry between the two was believable, too. Although, as one reviewer here suggested, it seemed urgent, not improved. The location, props, and sets were great, fun. However, it was strange to see so many people on Main Street, the main shopping street in the city. That sounded weird, weird. All in all, an exciting Christmas movie, not the best I've ever seen this season, but it certainly isn't the worst.
