Vacation Friends Review
According to Hollywood standards, the level of humor seems to decline year after year. With the focus on real world stories, real stories, and amazing stories in general, it is hard to find new real jokes these days. Vacation Friends is one of the latest films to be released in theaters but released on live streaming. It's Hulu in the United States and Disney + / Star in Canada, or people are talking about it, I feel like it won't get much credit in the right way. This was a hidden gem that I did not expect to be as beautiful as it was and that is why I recommend you check it out.
Following Emily (Yvonne Orji) and Marcus (Lil Rel Howrey) as they go on vacation, Marcus' plan is to propose marriage to her. After colliding with Kyla (Meredith Hagner) and Ron (John Cena), their journey becomes much more difficult than they had anticipated. This crazy couple may have been exactly what they needed in their journey (as they were a boring couple), but the effect that made the film move. Months after their departure, Kyla and Ron slammed Emily and Marcus' marriage and brought their lives back to life with the shocking news. All of this madness is made for the most enjoyable experience.
Back when John Cena started acting in films like The Marine or 12 Rounds, I just saw him as someone who could only make action films of that kind, but he really grew up as an actor over the years. As he stretched his horizons and tried the jokes, it seemed to fit better. When the filmmakers decided to play his role and put him in smaller roles in Trainwreck or the Sisters, I could see that his work was progressing well. Then the Blockers came out and put him in the front and in the middle and it really worked. Now with movies like Suicide Squad and Vacation Friends, I really feel like he got his move. I can see myself as a true follower of him and I really enjoy every moment of his screen here.
With that being said, it was not surprising that the other three main characters were all equally popular. Howrey, Hagner, and Orji all played funny and surprising and it never sounded too compelling. I would be lying though if I could say that one of the main reasons I fell in love with this film was because of the chemistry between John Cena and Lil Rel Howrey. Their sarcasm made so many scenes that I never imagined them as two good people. Sure, the plot is fantastic, but the journey to the end has been the power of this comedy.
All in all, a well-rated, well-executed joke might sound like a lot of bad jokes or people shouting things from start to finish, but Vaction Friends goes a little deeper than that. The beautiful touch of the drama and the reality of reminding you that the story is still trying to be real also was good for me. With jokes like these, in the present moment, you can do the worst. I was also surprised to see that Clay Tarver directed the film and contributed to screen writing because his work in the Silicon Valley series was unparalleled. That was his main television career. Look, this film is far from perfect and is predictably crazy, but also very entertaining. Now it broadcasts, if you are a person who loves funny jokes / feels good, I recommend Holiday Friends.
