 Vengeance Is Mine Review

The story is simple but skipped in its solid dialogue. Several times throughout the film the director allows the audience to try to piece together the information themselves and finally reveal the final answer. While the plot of the plot may be, "revenge is not right" the movie is smart enough to have a variety of interesting plot points.

Con O'Neill's performance as Harry was astonishing as he exposed the danger to a character that we should not like at all. He is driven by revenge and commits many questionable acts but also shows guilt for his actions. The supporting characters were really good. I wish I could say more about them but O'Neill's character was actually focused on it and everyone was in his shadow.

The production side was just as good as the imitation. There is a line configuration of the neo-noir structure and it is reflected in the film making. Rich images, precise camera work, orange-brown color complement the scenes. Most of the selected shots only help to increase the strength of the areas. The special effects used were brutal, one scene I had to watch a few times because I wanted to find out how it was accomplished.

The ending may not be clear or determined depending on how you look at it but for me the ambiguity is what kept you in my mind, I can no longer wait to have a film night to show this to all my friends.

It finally made me think of Kyle of Rittenhouse, a kid in the news now who came out to 'help' the citizens of our country and ended up killing people. Now I know it had nothing to do with revenge but in this film where the leader took the gun and the law in his hands made me think of Rittenhouse, Kyle probably thought like Harry, 'I am a moral hero' but we see the deadly and tragic consequences of doing so, fortunately this film makes you think twice about yourself as a moral judge.
