Chinese jokes can be very weird, and so are “Rookies”. An action film with massive slapstick scenes, trying to piece together the world of Michael Bay and Jerry Lewis to find an extravaganza that will entertain people, and nothing else. Of course, when one thinks of a freewheeling adventure with a subtle personality that goes into all sorts of scratches, a scene that describes a single character having its legs amputated doesn't seem like a natural fit for a comedy, but this is how "Rookies" works. The spy film discusses all sorts of extremes, including imitation, in which Milla Jovovich collects a day of big pay to appear in a few scenes, adding the power of the western star to the oriental work of chasing after stupid scenes. Well, not the dispersed part, but all the others are eager to please.
