There are not many films like Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets, but very few have the same conclusions. I think a lot of filmmakers feel obligated to live up to the expectations of their viewers, but the DBA almost always does the opposite. I used to find myself thinking, "this is not allowed", all the time. This was not a bad thing at all, especially in an unfamiliar area. The world in this movie is non-existent, with a long shot, yet the real feelings of James and all the other characters are very real. Although surrealism seems to be the main method of storytelling, that has not stopped it from taking it seriously, especially as it nears its end. At first I left feeling sad because many films give their viewers the favor of leaving them feeling fulfilled, but since the DBA has provided that feature of escaping a lot of time away, it makes sense that they will bring you back with a true message, a. raise a kind pronoun at the end of it. The fact that most of us, who we are among other people / other people does not mean who we are, because we do not even know who we really are. And even though things do not always go our way at all times, we cannot hold others accountable for our actions. We have to keep living and just let it separate from us without letting it define us, so I hope that one day, we can get there and be happy with who we are.
