Kingdom Ashin of the North Review

I really like "Kingdom". As covid delays season 3 appropriately, we make “Ashin of the North” a preliminary film that gives us the story of Ashin’s character, who made him play amazingly at the end of the second season.

With Joseon facing the threat of Japanese troops in the south, he is unable to meet troops in Jurchen in the north. The relationship between the two moves to the edge of the knife where, near the village of Seonjeoyain, a group of men from Pajeowi Jurchen are killed in an illegal forest area. In retaliation, Jurchen soldiers attacked and destroy Seonjeoyain, leaving only one girl, Ashin (Si-ah Kim and later Jun Ji-Hyun) alive. Ashin begs the local commander to take revenge, but he has another option. However, his knowledge of the mysterious plant, deep in the jungle will eventually have dire consequences.

Zombie tigers ... you know it's going to be a summer theme.

I really liked this. Actually just a long episode of feature feature, political direction, lots of zombies, hats .. it was all here. (Actually the hats were a little embarrassing on this). With an amazing look, the CGI work and traditional zombie style was as good as ever.

The story, though, was a real blessing. Ashin’s growth, suffering and a valid reason for revenge, although you might argue that it took you too far, are all really well done. The nature of his revenge on the barracks, while not unlike the scale of the other attacks we have seen, is well done.

I love that the film sets out the story we’ve seen so far, and it introduces us to who will be the main character in the third season. Roll on.
